Most Popular EVs in July 2021

There were 761 new and 534 used electric vehicles registered in July 2021 and were eligible to receive the clean car rebate. This blog post lists the most popular EVs in July 2021 based on make and model, and also shows the comparison with the preceding months’ data. The data used here is limited to passenger vehicles. In June 2021 there were 349 new and 82 used electric vehicles registered. We can see a clear impact of the clean car rebate programme. The number of new EV registrations in July more than doubled compared to June. Similarly the number of used EV registrations in July increased by more than a factor of six compared to June 2021. The impact of EV rebates on EV registrations will become clearer in the coming months.

Most Popular EVs By Model in July 2021

NISSAN LEAF replaced TESLA MODEL 3 as the most popular car once again, even though Tesla sales got a boost from the price drop for its new models. HYUNDAI IONIQ dropped five positions in the list to settle as the ninth most popular EV. MINI HATCH got the biggest boost in registrations and occupies the sixth position in our list.

How we determine vehicle popularity

We make the assumption that registrations indicate popularity. Registrations in a single month may not accurately reflect a vehicle’s overall popularity but can accurately reflect popularity when considered over a period of a few months.
